Marvell and Samsung jointly drive innovation in next-generation 5G network infrastructure products
BEIJING (March 10, 2020) – Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced a further expansion of their partnership to cover more areas of the Radio Access Network (RAN) network Infrastructure innovation. Marvell has worked closely with Samsung to deliver several generations of market-leading baseband and transmission processing base station solutions based on Marvell’s OCTEON and OCTEON Fusion processors. In addition, the two parties are continuing to collaborate on the development of an innovative radio frequency unit architecture designed to meet the significantly increased computing power requirements of complex beamforming algorithms and massive MIMO deployments. Based on the OCTEON Fusion platform, the collaboration integrates Samsung’s unique IP to provide differentiated and optimized solutions that accelerate time-to-market.
Network operators are facing daunting challenges in rolling out cost-effective 5G network infrastructure, while also addressing the complexities of higher frequency spectrum, massive MIMO antenna arrays and ultra-low latency. Marvell and Samsung are working together to develop highly integrated solutions that address these issues by combining their unique programmability and superior performance. Being based on the OCTEON Fusion platform, the new solution also immediately inherits its extensive software ecosystem.
“Samsung is committed to helping mobile operators achieve their performance goals,” said Jaeho Jeon, executive vice president and head of research and development, Samsung Electronics’ Networks Business Unit. This spirit will drive us to continuously improve our 5G technology capabilities. Marvell is an important partner for Samsung and can help us achieve these goals.”
“We firmly believe that by working closely with Samsung, both companies will differentiate themselves in the 5G infrastructure market,” said Raghib Hussain, chief strategy officer and executive vice president of the Network and Processors Group at Marvell. Infrastructure equipment providers can help network operators accelerate in a fast-moving 5G world.”
