Power Integrations released InnoSwitch3-PD reference design, suitable for ultra-compact USB Type C, PD + PPS adapters

DER-937 is a 100W USB PD charger designed with highly integrated boost PFC and gallium nitride flyback switch IC, using only 117 components in total

Power Integrations (Nasdaq stock code: POWI), a well-known company deep in the field of high-voltage integrated circuits and high-efficiency power conversion, today released a new USB PD charger reference design with excellent performance and very few components. This charger reference design named DER-937 uses Power Integrations’ new InnoSwitch? 3-PD PowiGaN? flyback switch IC and HiperPFS?-4 PFC controller IC, using only 117 components, which can be realized 100W USB PD 3.0 + digital control power supply (PPS) with power factor correction (PFC) function. The DER-937 report includes power supply specifications, circuit schematics, PCB layout, bill of materials, detailed core specifications and performance data.

Aditya Kulkarni, senior product marketing engineer at Power Integrations, said: “The efficiency level of this USB PD charger design exceeds 93%, which includes input stage, PFC stage and flyback stage. Its no-load performance is also very good, under 230VAC. The required no-load input power is less than 40mW. The number of BOM components of this design is about half of the traditional design, which can save space and shorten the design time. For original and non-original manufacturers who mass produce ultra-thin and ultra-compact chargers , Which can greatly simplify its component procurement.”

DER-937 uses two ICs recently launched by Power Integrations. The InnoSwitch3-PD INN3870C quasi-resonant offline flyback switch IC integrates USB Type C and USB PD controllers, high-voltage PowiGaN GaN switches, synchronous rectification and FluxLink feedback circuits. HiperPFS-4 PFS7628C PFC controller IC integrates Qspeed? Low reverse recovery charge (Qrr) boost diode, which can provide more than 98% efficiency over the entire load range.
