Waymo and Jikrypton cooperate with all-electric, fully-autonomous driving taxis
Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely) high-end electric brand Zeekr will cooperate with Waymo to develop a new pure electric vehicle and deploy it in the Waymo One self-driving taxi fleet in the United States.
Waymo and Zeekr collaborate on autonomous drive vehicle
About this plan
This brand-new, purpose-built travel vehicle is being designed and developed at the Zeekr R&D plant of the Central European Vehicle Technology Center (CEVT). This center in Gothenburg, Sweden has a good record in developing first-class vehicles for the entire Geely Group. According to this collaboration, Zeekr will design and develop future vehicles on a new proprietary open source travel architecture. Waymo will receive these vehicles in the United States and then integrate its fully automated driving system Waymo Driver into the vehicle platform.
This new car has been designed with the driver as the center from the very beginning, setting a new benchmark for autonomous vehicles. This new Zeekr is designed for autonomous driving use cases. It will have a fully configurable cockpit: with or without driver controls, which can be customized according to the requirements of the drivers and passengers of the Waymo One driverless taxi fleet in the United States.
Founded in early 2021, Zeekr has design and engineering resources in Sweden and has become a global technology travel brand. Zeekr’s first model “001” was launched in April 2021, and delivery began in October of the same year.
Andy An, CEO of Zeekr Technology, said: “Zeekr’s ideals of equality, diversity and sustainability are inherent. By becoming a strategic partner and vehicle supplier to the Waymo One fleet, we will be able to share our Experience, ideals and provide our expertise to cooperate in the development of all-electric vehicles to meet Waymo’s requirements for this rapidly expanding market segment in the sustainable mobility global market.”
